Weighing just between 40 and 50 pounds, English bulldogs make great family pets. With thick shoulders, massive heads and short legs, the purebred standard calls for these dogs to have ‘rosebud-shaped’ ears that set relatively high on their heads. Most English bulldogs have a widest, powerful jaw with an exaggerated underbite. Another distinctive feature of the English bulldog is its short tail, which is sometimes straight or curly and is typically carried very low. These dogs are great for families with children because the temperament of this dog is historically sweet and gentle. English bulldogs also are eager to please their owners. An ideal owner provides both leadership and training at a very young age to establish regiment and routine. Although the stern face of an English bulldog is deceiving, the personality of a well-trained English bulldog is second to none.
