For most majors in college, the majority of the material is learned and then the student forgets it or rarely applies this information to real life circumstances. The material learned as an English major is applied constantly. As an English major, speech, diction, writing skills and prose are components that you need to master and perfect during the course of your education. Whether you are writing a business letter to a company, speaking in public at a conference, teaching a group of students or editing an article for a newspaper, the skills that you have place you in the best situation to succeed in each of these situations. Additionally, your vast vocabulary should help significantly in social situations with intellectual people, and it may impress a friend or two with the newfound knowledge that you have acquired.
An English major attains many different skills during the course of his or her tutelage in college. It is important to soak up all of the information that you are able to since each fact and skill is imperative to your future.
